About Us

Accurance was founded in 1999 to provide book production services to publishing companies. Over 27 years, we’ve produced nearly 100,000 titles for our publisher clients.

Today, we provide complete book production services or individual services, depending on what each publisher needs. We work with authors directly as well.

Most of the time you now spend managing production simply goes away.

You decide how involved you want to be. Accurance handles routine production decisions and problems within the authority you give us. We contact you when a matter genuinely requires your decision, information or approval. We do not make decisions outside that authority simply to avoid involving you.

You don't have to dismantle what's working. Keep the people, vendors and processes that work; use Accurance for everything else.

There is no need to replace people, freelancers, vendors or processes that already work well. You choose which production services Accurance handles. Getting started can be straightforward: the contract may take only a couple of hours, followed by a few hours to share procedures and information with the relevant managers. If useful, we can add a Zoom Q&A. The goal is a working relationship that fits your existing operation, not a disruptive integration project.

Having to continually manage people and capacity for changing production volume is over.

Your production volume changes. So does the mix of services you need. Maintaining enough people to handle the peaks means carrying capacity you may not need later. Freelancers create a different problem: when your volume falls, they have to find work elsewhere, so you can't assume the same capacity will still be available when your volume returns.

Accurance manages that variation across multiple clients and production services. We maintain and cross-train the production capacity, so changes in your normal volume and service mix become our staffing problem rather than yours.

We continually measure error rates. Then we engineer them out.

We've been measuring production errors and using what we learn to change our processes for years. The result is that errors are now rare—but we still measure them. When one occurs, we determine why it happened and, if it calls for it, change the process. Continuous improvement is built into operations.

Fewer than 5% of projects need a production-related contact with you.

We handle routine production questions and problems without involving you. We also work systematically to prevent predictable author questions and confusion before they arise.

If something genuinely requires your authority, information, or participation, we contact you. Otherwise, we handle it.

We don't give out our clients' names. We won't give out yours either.

Our publisher relationships are confidential. For good reason. Over the years, we've seen publishers harmed when competitors obtained information about their outside relationships and used it against them. We don't create that exposure. So we don't disclose our clients' names. Ever. That means we can't give you a client list or references to call. Instead, test us. Give us representative work and judge what we produce against your own standards.

27 years. Approaching 100,000 titles.

We've been producing books for publishers since 1999. Over those 27 years, we've completed nearly 100,000 interior formatting projects, 70,000 book covers, 40,000 ebook conversions and 10,000 editing jobs.

That experience has given us many opportunities to identify production problems, understand their causes and improve the processes that prevent them. Our production systems reflect decades of learning and continuous improvement.

Don't take our word for it. Put us to the test.

You don't have to establish an ongoing relationship to test our production work. Give us a representative project, agree on the specifications and one-time price, and see what we deliver.

We'll arrange only what's needed for the test. You can evaluate the quality, cost, turnaround and communication without first setting up a complete working relationship.

If you're considering white-label production, we can also show you examples of actual author correspondence, with identifying information removed, so you can see how we handle questions and problems.

If you decide to continue, we'll establish the operating procedures together. We can also include an option to end the relationship during the first two months if it isn't working as you expected.

Keep your organization stable. Let us absorb the variation.

Your production volume changes, but your organization doesn't have to change with it.

Keep the employees, freelancers and vendors you want to keep. Accurance handles the production work beyond that capacity, whether your volume increases, decreases or the mix of services changes.

We work with multiple publishers every day. When one publisher's volume increases and another's decreases, those changes partly offset each other. We also have production staff trained, tested and certified in more than one service, such as interior formatting and ebook production, allowing us to shift capacity between services as demand changes.

These are just two examples of a production system that our process engineers have spent 25 years designing and refining. Their job is to make the changing demands of multiple publishers manageable within one production operation. The result for you is organizational stability: fluctuations in volume, including peaks, become our problem to manage rather than yours.

More volume in any service lowers your prices across all services.

The more production work you send Accurance, the lower your prices become.

And the volume doesn't have to come from one service. Interior formatting, cover design, ebook production and editing all contribute to your total production volume.

As your combined volume increases, you qualify for lower prices across the services you purchase from us, not just the service where your volume increased.

That means growth in one part of your publishing operation can reduce production costs in other parts as well.

Work directly with us, or let us work white-label behind you.

You decide how Accurance works with your authors.

We can provide production services directly to you, with your staff maintaining the author relationship and handling communications. Or we can work white-label, communicating directly with your authors under your publishing company's identity.

In a white-label relationship, we handle routine author questions, instructions and production problems without requiring your staff to act as intermediaries. Fewer than 5% of projects require even one production-related contact with you. (Of course, we have no control over authors you completely charmed during the sales process who simply like talking to you.) You retain control over the relationship and the decisions that belong to you.

You can also use both arrangements for different projects or services. You decide what works best for your operation.

Your costs with us are usually lower than what you're paying now. Check it out.

Compare what you're currently paying for production with what Accurance would charge for the same work, using the same specifications.

Our prices are usually lower than those of freelancers or other outsourced production providers offering comparable work. Even when you produce books in-house, our prices can be lower than your actual production costs, once you account for the full cost of your employees.
